Well we never talk about our own power — we use it all the time, to help, to attack, to support, to deviate from, to … well you get the drift.
I’m still examining the vibe from before the Iowa caucus and afterwards.
It’s all different. The electoral process is a gig of its own, it just is.
The electoral gig is all about gathering, gaining and consolidating power — something as invisible as the wind and just as awesome. The candidates deal with big waves of power and we, the supporters, deal with our own waves, too. En garde!
So the issues, in this light, this dynamic gathering and pursuing of power, transform, it appears, into sort of flattened poker chips, representative of real value but by no means fully flowered into our democracy, not yet.
Let’s take the issue of sexuality. For to me this is no longer the feminism I grew up with which, at that time, was pretty much all white women who I had very little in common with. I for sure did indeed go for the boys, I still would if I had the energy, heh, but that wasn’t the only thing I went for, oh nosiree.
Sexuality — here in America we aren’t, I believe, very mature sexually. I hear France laughs at us.
But still it’s a difficult power to wield without hurting yourself, so I shall not mock.
Women. Lesbians. Transexuals. Gay Men. Black. Latino. Native American. Asian. Muslim. All that jazz, all of that jazz, that’s a lotta jazz.
And we are constrained to arguments over Gloria Steinem and whether taking money from corporations is a feminist issue (short answer: yes). Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s a pretty narrow conversation for a nation as diverse as the USA.
The same powers who wish to keep us in conflict with each other also wish us to never actually delve into the real issues of our times, but instead to keep those chips flattened out, playing in the House, and never cashed in.
Nope, don’t cash them in. Don’t let those issues flower, don’t let us come together.
Well, as the kids would say, fuck that shit. You only live once. Time to find the real table to be seated at, cash in those chips and leave that casino capitalist green baize covered one. We want the table where everyone is given dignity and respect and money is NOT the issue.
So in conclusion, these are very interesting times. Have a nice week ahead. I’m a 9-5 wage slave so I have intimations of …
